March 9 at 7PM Richard Frey will perform on the Konzelman Pipe Organ. This will be the first solo recital of the second year of the Grace Concert Series. The intent of the series is to use the wonderful acoustics of the sanctuary and provide a place for excellent artists to perform music centered on, but not always solely about, GraceÕs wonderful new pipe organ.

Richard E. Frey is a native of Bethlehem, PA. He holds degrees from Westminster Choir College, Boston University, and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served churches in Binghamton, NY, Wayne, PA, and for over 30 years at the Ridgewood United Methodist Church from 1972-2003. Since July of 2003 he has served as Minister of Music at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hanover, PA, a church of 1200 members with 12 choirs.

He has given recitals at St. PatrickÕs Cathedral and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, and the Cadet Chapel at West Point. In 1981 he served as organist for the national convention of the National Council of Churches. In 1986-87, he gave benefit recitals around the country, raising $10,000 for Bread for the World. In 1994 and 1999 he accompanied Peter, Paul, and Mary at the Ocean Grove, NJ, Great Auditorium.

He has made 14 recordings, six of them of organ music. As a composer, he has 26 works published. He is married to Susan Dotterer Frey, a native of Lamar, PA, and also a graduate of Westminster Choir College. The Freys have 3 children.

His program will range from BachÕs ÒToccata and Fugue in D minorÓ to contemporary composers Gordon Young, George Shearing and James Wynne (the current organist at Ridgewood United Methodist Church).

The cost is $10, which includes a wine and cheese reception after the concert!
